Good News for the Caregiving Industry

There’s good news on the horizon for in-home caregivers and personal care aides. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of job opportunities is expected to rise by 850,000. This is due to the growing group of those aging Baby Boomers and the demand for in-home services and the desire to age-in-place.
This is a marked increase, from approximately 4.68 million workers in 2025 to 5.52 million in 2035, showing an 18% increase, or approximately 847,300 new jobs. This is outpacing the growth of the U.S. economy, which is projected to grow at about 3.5%.
These numbers are a reflection more of long-term trends rather than predictions, based on several factors, including technology and economic conditions.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, from 2025 through 2035, there will be an estimated 760,500 openings for home health and personal care aides annually. In 2025 alone, there were approximately 4,677,100 caregiving jobs in the U.S.
This growth of job opportunities in the caregiving industry also contributes to the demand for community, home-based health services over the more traditional nursing services. All of this involves recruiting qualified caregivers by agencies who can provide the support necessary to accommodate these increasing demands. It also demands the need for quality training.
This is also evidence of the growing healthcare support industry, where it is projected to grow the fastest. The industry of in-home caregiving requires assistance with daily tasks, including:
Hygiene assistance
Meal preparation
Transportation
Housekeeping
Medication reminders
Alzheimer’s and dementia care
Companionship
The more seniors decide to age-in-place, the bigger demand for in-home caregivers. Many decide to stay at home due to the familiar surroundings and comfort that this provides. This requires constant attention to recruitment, training, and an environment where caregivers are given the respect they need to perform their jobs.
